St. Othmar Church
Today Kolonitzplatz has already been c. 1673, a first chapel, which the Holy. Margaret was ordained and was destroyed in 1683. Around 1690 a church was built, which is also the Holy. Margaret was, and was ordained until 1873. The groundbreaking ceremony for the edification of today's neo-Gothic church, designed by Friedrich Schmidt took place in 1866. The building was completed in 1873, and in the following year they founded the parish of St. Othmar, because previously the parish was part of the parish of St. Roch. In the years 1934 to 1936 was made a full externally. In 1944 the church was badly damaged by a bomb, but that could be successfully resolved in the postwar years.
After St. Stephen's Cathedral and the votive church of St. Othmar has the third highest church tower in Vienna this side of the Danube and is therefore visible from afar. To the left of the entrance is the Chapel of the Madonna with the Madonna of Francis Barwig right, the Baptistery with a baptismal font made of marble. The nave is lined with massive columns, which separate the side aisles. Above the sounding board of the pulpit is emblazoned a statue of John the Baptist and an elaborate wooden Relief on the basket, which shows Jesus as the Good Shepherd. The original church organ was awarded as part of the Vienna World Exhibition of 1873, during World War I made unusable by removing the pipes. We installed 1931 a new organ, which was operated as the first church organ in Vienna with electricity. A renovation took place in 2001. The high altar is marked by four statues, which show the Holy Othmar, Severin, Leopold and Joseph.
