Turkey Tour

Turkey with land on the continents of Europe and Asia, Turkey forms a bridge between the two. It guards the sea passage between the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Only 5% of its area, Thrace, is in Europe and the much larger area, known as Anatolia, is in Asia. European Turkey is fertile agricultural land with a Mediterranean climate. Asiatic Turkey is bordered to the north by the Pontine Mountains and to the south by the Taurus Mountains. The climate here ranges from Mediterranean to hot summers and bitterly cold winters in the central plains. Agriculture employs almost half the workforce with the major crops being wheat, sugar beet, barley, fruits, maize and oil seeds. The country’s main exports were iron and steel, textiles, dried fruits, tobacco, leather, clothes and petroleum products. Manufacturing industry includes iron and steel, textiles, motor vehicles and Turkey’s famous carpets. The main mineral resources are iron ore, coal, chromium, magnetite, zinc and lead. Hydroelectric power is supplied by the Tigris and Euphrates. Tourism is a fast-developing industry.
