Belgrade

RS

Belgrade is Serbia’s capital, a lively city at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, known for its fortress, riverfronts, nightlife, cafes, museums, and layered history.

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and one of Southeast Europe’s most energetic city destinations. Set where the Sava and Danube rivers meet, the city combines river views, historic neighborhoods, modern nightlife, cafe culture, parks, markets, and a layered urban history shaped by different empires and eras.

The city’s classic starting point is Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park, overlooking the river confluence. From there, visitors can explore Knez Mihailova Street, Republic Square, the old quarter of Dorćol, the bohemian restaurants of Skadarlija, the Sava riverfront, and the newer districts of New Belgrade. Bridges, floating river venues, and wide waterfront promenades are a strong part of the city’s everyday character.

Belgrade is less polished than many Central European capitals, but that is part of its appeal: it feels lived-in, social, and constantly changing. It works well for travelers interested in food, nightlife, history, architecture, river walks, and a city atmosphere that mixes Balkan warmth with an urban edge.
