The Vienna Christmas Market at Rathausplatz occupies the square in front of City Hall. The neighbouring Christmas park and the setting between the Rathaus and Burgtheater make it a distinct stop in Vienna, rather than a name for all the city's seasonal markets.
The market and the ice are separate activities
The organiser presents the market, the park and the accompanying ice-skating programme as related experiences. Their dates are not necessarily identical. Check the edition information above for the market itself, then consult the organiser before planning a skating session.
A useful visit can combine a circuit of the stalls with time in the park. If you are travelling with children or meeting a group, agree a meeting point before entering the busiest parts of the square. Food, purchases and skating should be budgeted separately.
Getting to Rathausplatz
The organiser lists U2 Rathaus and U3 Volkstheater, along with tram stops at Rathausplatz/Burgtheater and Parliament. Check current transport notices before travelling. Arriving by public transport avoids relying on parking immediately beside the event.
